MBR Plant Designer: Membrane Bioreactor Design Software with ASM2d Simulator

Design a complete membrane bioreactor plant in an afternoon, and check it with a full biological simulator before anyone else does.

MBR Plant Designer is a design tool for process engineers who size, check or upgrade MBR plants. Enter the flows, influent quality and effluent targets. It sizes the whole plant, from the inlet works to sludge treatment, and then runs every design through an ASM2d simulator at your coldest temperature with a daily flow pattern. If a target is missed, it tells you why and offers one-click fixes.

Verified against real operating MBR plants and cross-checked against a commercial process simulator.

Learn it in five short lessons

Press Tutorials in the tool. Each lesson loads an example plant and guides you step by step, opening the right page and highlighting where to look. The same five lessons come as narrated videos in the download:

  1. Your first design (5 ML/d town plant)
  2. Tight nitrogen and phosphorus limits (1 ML/d, Bardenpho)
  3. Membranes, air and equipment (25 ML/d city plant)
  4. Draw your own process (flowsheet builder)
  5. Costs and options (10 ML/d retrofit)

What it designs

  • Biology: MLE, A2O and 4-stage Bardenpho, with sludge age, zone volumes, recycles, intermittent or sequenced aeration and biological plus chemical phosphorus removal.
  • Membranes: hollow fibre, flat sheet or side-stream; flux at average and peak flow, module and train count, scour air (continuous or on/off at optimum flux), cleaning and permeate pumps.
  • Aeration: process and scour air, diffusers, blowers and power at minimum, average and peak load.
  • Plant and equipment: inlet screens and grit, pumps and heads, hydraulic profile, chemical dosing and storage, sludge thickening and dewatering, disinfection and odour, electrical load, instruments and a full equipment list.

Check it, simulate it, draw your own

  • Automatic simulator check on every design: ASM2d with nitrification, denitrification, bio-P and chemical P, at minimum temperature with the 24-hour flow pattern.
  • Flowsheet builder: drag zones, splitters, mixers and recycle pumps onto a canvas and connect them. The design sizes every zone for you, and flows and concentrations appear on every pipe.
  • Mass balance on the process flow diagram, and stress tests for storms, cold snaps, blower failure and load shocks.
  • Calibrate the model to your own plant's operating data.

Costs and options

  • Capital, operating and life-cycle cost from an editable price book with regional presets.
  • Carbon footprint, site footprint and sensitivity analysis.
  • Compare designs side by side and rank options by life-cycle cost.
